The Tale of Two Wolves: A Lesson for Men and Boys
On a quiet night, beneath a sky lit by the moon and stars, a father sat with his son. Together, they embraced the stillness, sharing a moment within a world they cherished. Breaking the silence, the father spoke:
“My son, within each of us, a battle rages between two wolves.”
“One wolf is evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, lies, false pride, ego, entitlement, hatred — a force that seeks to destroy.”
“The other wolf is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith — a force that seeks to create.”
The son, thoughtful and curious, asked his father, “Which wolf wins?”
His father replied simply, “The one you feed.”
Who Are We Teaching Our Boys to Be?
This story holds a powerful truth for men and boys today. Too often, society tells men they are “the bad wolf”— that their nature is destructive, harmful, and unworthy. The narrative frames men as bad fathers, bad providers, bad husbands, and bad partners. This relentless message crushes the spirit and leaves men struggling to believe they can be anything else.
But how can we raise boys to become good men if we never show them how to feed the good wolf? How can they believe they are capable of kindness, courage, and compassion if they are only ever told they are destructive, harmful, and wrong?
Men don’t need condemnation. They need guidance. They need fathers, mentors, and role models to show them that they are worthy, that their character can be built, that they are good at their core. Boys need to hear that they are loved not for what they do, but for who they are.
The Cost of Fighting Alone
Some men learn to feed the good wolf without ever having a father or mentor to guide them. Yes, it can be done. And to those men who have fought that battle alone, I salute you. But make no mistake — it is a brutal fight. Battling the world and your inner demons without support wears a man down. The exhaustion of carrying that fight alone can dull his spirit and break his heart.
No man should have to fight this battle alone.

Men, it’s time to change the narrative. It’s time to embrace the good within us and help others do the same. It’s time to lift each other up, to mentor the boys who will become men, and to remind ourselves that we are worthy of joy, love, and peace.
